The Rock Garden of Chandigarh also known as the Nek Chand's Rock Garden, named after its founder Nek Chand, is one of its kind in India. This sculpture garden is unique in many sense, it is made of complex interlinked courtyards filled with sculptures of animal and human figures made from recycled material like ceramics, bangles, bottles, electric wastes etc., open-air amphitheaters and waterfalls also dot the place. Nek Chand, a former government employee started work on this garden during his spare time, secretly building his garden on a government land reserved as forest buffer. Although illegal the garden was later opened to public only after it was discovered 18 years later. Today it is spread over an area of around forty acres and is a principal attraction of the city of Chandigarh.
