Velas

It was long due. A visit to Konkan and its wonderful beaches. This years first long trip was to 'Velas' a secluded beach on the Arabian coast right between Goa and Mumbai. The beach is not frequented by tourists and is only known to environment enthusiast as it is the place where the Olive Ridley Turtles lay their eggs. In the months between February and March the eggs hatch and tiny turtles crawl their way to the sea. The NGO 'Sahyadri Nisarg Mitra' run a conservation camp here to protect the turtle eggs.
We planned our trip on the weekend but as luck would have it we could  not witness any hatchings. But nevertheless the trip was fun and worth every bit. We enjoyed the pristine environment of the beach and the village, not to mention the hospitality of the village family we stayed with.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.
