Chalukyan Heritage - Badami

Badami (Karnataka) served as a capital for the Chalukya empire in the period from 5th century AD to 8th century AD. It was here at Badami the Indian temple architecture developed and flourished. Along with Badami, the Chalukyan built temples at Aihole and Pattadkal.

First in the series of three posts, following are some photographs of the wonderful temples that Chalukyan kings commissioned.

  2. Amazing pictures! This takes me down the memory lane, I visited this place when I was 14. If not I am not mistaken, these temples are monolithic, right? These are igneous rocks, right?
Also, if I remember correctly, there is a beautiful carving of a Natarja at the entrance of one of the temples. Did you see it?
